Finance

The Finance Department is responsible for all financial operations of the Town, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, investments, payroll processing, debt issuance, assisting in budget development and implementation, and the recording of Town assets and liabilities. The Finance Department operates in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, Town financial policies, applicable financial laws outlined in the NC General Statutes, and guidelines established by the NC Department of State Treasurer and NC Local Government Commission. 

The Town's financial statements are audited annually by a separate accounting firm, and reviewed by the Board of Commissioners and the NC Department of State Treasurer. 

Property tax billing and collections are conducted by the Carteret County Tax Office on behalf of the Town.  The Town's property tax rate for FY 2023-24 is 21 cents per $100 of assessed valuation.
