Aerial of the bridge to Cape Carteret

Welcome to the official website of the Town of Cape Carteret!  Whether you're a full-time resident, part-time resident, property owner, business owner, or a friend of Cape Carteret, we're glad that you've chosen to check us out online!

The Town of Cape Carteret is a friendly community of people blessed to live in close proximity to the beautiful waters of Bogue Sound and its tributaries along the central coast of North Carolina.  The Town has a total population of more than 2,200 full-time residents spread across more than 2 square miles in western Carteret County.  The Town boasts nearly 8 miles of waterfront property along Bogue Sound, Deer Creek, nearby canals, and Pettiford Creek, and is located just across a bridge connecting the mainland to nearby Bogue Banks and the Atlantic Ocean.  Our community prides itself on its small-town atmosphere, water-based lifestyle, and low-density residential living.

The Town is located on the eastern side of the NC 58 / NC 24 intersection, and includes 3 distinct single-family residential neighborhoods - Old Cape Carteret, Bayshore Park, and Star Hill.  These three communities are served by a commercial area that includes retail, restaurants, services, and amusements located in the center of the town on NC 24.  Future development plans call for the development of a new "Town Center" environment on vacant land centrally located in the town, as well as additional housing options.

In addition to plentiful water recreation activities, including boating, fishing, and swimming, the Town is served by a dedicated 2.4 mile bicycle path in the center of town (with plans for an additional 1+ mile to be constructed soon) and the privately owned and open to the public Star Hill Golf Course, which offers 27 holes for area golfers to enjoy.  The Town's amenities include a popular public boat ramp with convenient access to Bogue Sound, several water access parks, a kayak launching facility on Pettiford Creek, and 4 other Town parks that we hope to improve in the coming years.

The Town is governed by a 5-member Board of Commissioners and separately elected Mayor, and a Town staff of 15 full-time employees strives to provide quality, helpful, responsive service to our residents, property owners, businesses, and visitors.  All of us at the Town of Cape Carteret are working hard to serve our customers, and hopefully make life a little better, a little easier, and a little more fulfilling for everyone in Cape Carteret!

Thank you for your interest in the Town of Cape Carteret, and please don't hesitate to contact us if we can be helpful to you.
