Zoning ​Permit Information

​A zoning permit is required for any development in the Town that is regulated by the Town's ordinances or by state or federal regulations. These include but are not limited to new residences, additions, sheds, decks, pools, fences, new impervious driveways or patios, etc. If you have a question about a particular situation, please contact Town Hall for clarification.
 To apply for a zoning permit, please fill out the Zoning Permit Application (button above), and submit via email to bowens@capecarteret.org or in person at Town Hall. Please include (2) copies of a site plan along with the required information for your particular project that are detailed on the Zoning Permit Submission Requirements (button above).
 Projects that fall within flood zones will have additional requirements to include a CAMA permit. CAMA permits are issued through Carteret County. If your project is located within a subdivision, you will be required to provide signed approval from the HOA/ARC prior to issuance of  a Zoning Permit. Town Zoning Permit costs are $100 residential and $200 commercial and are collected when the application is submitted. Once the complete application package is received, it is checked for compliance.  A field inspection will be made to ensure all conditions of permits were followed.  Please review your approved Zoning Permit conditions carefully.                                                                                       
​BUILDING PERMITS
Building permits can be obtained from the Western Carteret County office after receipt of a zoning permit from the Town of Cape Carteret.  Please contact the Western office at 252-222-5833.
