Commissioner Don Miller, originally from Tupelo, MS moved to Cape Carteret with his family in 1995 while he was an active duty Marine at Camp Lejeune. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corps the following year and began working for the Morehead City Police Department, where he served for 12 ½ years. He was a Captain with that department when, in 2008 he was hired as the Cape Carteret Police Chief. He served as Police Chief for five years, retiring in December 2013. After retiring from Cape Carteret Police Department, he worked for several months at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq as a security contractor, returning home in the summer of 2014. He is currently licensed by the State as a Private Investigator. He has a B.S. degree in Criminal Justice from Bemidji State University and an M.S. in Criminal Justice from Capella University. Commissioner Miller and his wife, Carla, who is a register nurse, have two grown sons, both of whom graduated from Croatan High School. |
